The KNUST Alumni community proudly celebrates Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, the Asante Mamponghene, occupant of the Silver Stool of the Ashanti Kingdom and a distinguished alumnus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), whose remarkable journey brings together academic excellence, technology, international professional experience, alumni service and traditional leadership.
Born Leslie Nkansa Osei-Bonsu in Kumasi, Daasebre Osei Bonsu III is a royal of the Botaase Royal Family of Asante Mampong. His educational journey began at the City of Kumasi Preparatory School before he proceeded to Prempeh College, where he distinguished himself as a student leader, serving as Assistant School Prefect.
His journey at KNUST marked another important chapter. He earned a First-Class Bachelor of Science degree in Geomatic Engineering, laying the foundation for a career at the intersection of technology, geospatial science and software development. He later pursued postgraduate studies in Europe, earning an MSc in Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation, with Distinction, from the University of Twente in the Netherlands, followed by an MSc in Computational Science and Engineering from the Technical University of Munich, Germany.
Over more than two decades, Daasebre Osei Bonsu III has built an international career as a senior software architect and geospatial systems strategist, working across Europe and Africa. He served as Product and Service Group Manager at GAF AG in Germany, where he led multidisciplinary teams working on software solutions for spatial analysis, agricultural decision support and secure identity management. A certified Scrum Master and Product Owner, he is also a long-standing member of professional bodies including IEEE, ACM and the IEEE Computer Society.
In October 2025, he was nominated to succeed the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II as Mamponghene, occupying the revered Silver Stool of Asante Mampong. Following the customary processes, he was formally enstooled as Daasebre Osei Bonsu III by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on 19 January 2026. As Mamponghene, he occupies an important position within Asanteman and has pledged to serve the people of Asante Mampong and the wider Asante Kingdom with truth, commitment and integrity.
Daasebre Osei Bonsu III's story is a compelling reflection of the diverse journeys of KNUST alumni. From a First-Class Geomatic Engineering graduate to an internationally experienced technology professional, dedicated alumni leader and now traditional ruler, his journey demonstrates how education, professional excellence, service and heritage can come together to shape purposeful leadership.
