The KNUST Alumni community is celebrating one of its distinguished alumnae, Prof. Marian Asantewah Nkansah, following her election as a Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS), one of the world's most prestigious international academies dedicated to advancing science, the arts, humanities, and public service.
Prof. Nkansah, a proud alumna of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), is the Director of Student Affairs and a Professor of Environmental Chemistry at the University. Her election to WAAS recognises her outstanding contributions to scientific research, environmental sustainability, and public service, placing her among an esteemed global network of scholars, scientists, policymakers, and innovators committed to addressing some of the world's most pressing challenges.
The announcement was conveyed in a congratulatory letter from the Academy's Secretary General, Janani Ramanathan, who welcomed Prof. Nkansah into the Academy and invited her to contribute to its international conferences, publications, and collaborative initiatives.
An internationally acclaimed environmental chemist, Prof. Nkansah's research has significantly advanced understanding of environmental pollution, toxic substances, and food safety. Her work has informed environmental policy and public health interventions, contributing to safer communities and more sustainable environmental practices.
Her election to WAAS adds to an impressive list of international recognitions, including the Fayzah M. Al-Kharafi Prize, the OWSD–Elsevier Foundation Award for Women Scientists in Africa, election as a Fellow of the International Science Council (ISC), and Fellowship of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences.
