Professor Grace Nkansah Asante is a shining example of excellence, resilience, and service. A proud alumna of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), she has risen through the ranks to become a trailblazer in both academia and the Anglican Church. In April 2024, she etched her name in history by becoming the first female Professor of Economics in Ghana, a milestone that continues to inspire generations of students and scholars.

Currently a professor at the Department of Economics at KNUST, she has devoted nearly two decades to teaching and research. Her passion for education is evident in the wide range of courses she teaches, ranging from introductory economics to advanced topics such as Economic Policy Analysis, Portfolio Management, and Macroeconomic Theory. She also serves as a resource person at the African Economic Research Consortium’s Joint Facility for Electives, contributing to graduate-level economic education across Africa.

Professor Asante's academic journey is just as impressive. She holds a PhD in Economics from KNUST, a master’s degree in Economic Policy Management from the University of Ghana, Legon, and a bachelor’s degree in French and Economics from KNUST. Her research interests lie in economic policy, finance, and monetary economics, fields in which she has published extensively.

Her professional contributions go beyond the university. She previously served as a Research Officer at the Governance Division of the African Development Bank in Abidjan and worked as a Public Administrator at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly. Between 2019 and 2022, she served as Head of the Department of Economics at KNUST and currently holds the position of Vice Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

But Professor Asante is not only an academic. She is also a devoted priest in the Anglican Communion, serving at the Archbishop Thomas Cranmer Anglican Church at KNUST. Her deep faith and sense of mission led to another remarkable achievement in May 2025, when she was appointed Africa’s representative on the Crown Nominations Commission, the body responsible for selecting the next Archbishop of Canterbury.

Outside the classroom and the church, Professor Asante is known for her warm and nurturing spirit. She loves spending time with children, writing Bible tracts, and engaging in music and dance. Her favorite color is green, a reflection of her calm yet vibrant personality.

Professor Grace Nkansah Asante exemplifies the spirit of KNUST, blending academic excellence, public service, and spiritual leadership. Her story is one of dedication, integrity, and breaking barriers. We are proud to celebrate her as our Alumna of the Month.
