The Advancement and Alumni Relations Office in collaboration with the Studentsā Representative Council (SRC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, (KNUST) has organised the second edition of the Nyansapo Dialogue Series - an event which brings together selected distinguished KNUST alumni to interact and discuss with studentsā issues of mutual interest.
In his welcome address, the SRC Vice-President, Nana Kwabena Osei, encouraged the students to actively engage the alumni by asking relevant questions on how they are making strides in the industry and how students can maximise their stay on campus.
The objective of the series, according to the Senior Assistant Registrar at the AARO, Mr. James Kwasi Oberko, is to shape Ā studentsā attitude towards academic and social life to inform a more responsible attitude on campus during their period of study. He hoped that the dialogue would shape studentsā perception and life on campus.
Mr. Oberko noted that the alumni for this edition were Mr. Samuel Atta Mensah, CEO of Citi TV/FM; Nikki Samonas, Actress, Model, and Entrepreneur; Mr. Elliot Agyare, CEO of Smartline Publishing Limited; and Professor (Mrs.) Dorothy Yeboah-Manu, Director of Noguchi Memorial Institute.
Sharing their experiences, the Director of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, Professor Dorothy Yeboah-Manu stressed the importance of extracurricular activities for personal growth and development and career success. āYou would be working with people, so you need to develop your āpeopleā skills while on campus. There are so many programmes on campus you can engage in, therefore, be serious with your academics but do other things that can shape up your future,ā she advised.
The CEO of Citi TV/FM, Mr. Samuel Attah Mensah who read BSc. Computer Science during his time on campus, also emphasised on the need to sacrifice for maximum results. He advised students to invest in their lives and be selfless in their pursuits. He assured them that in doing this progress would follow.
Nikki Samonas, a proud graduate of the Department Communication Design took the students through how like-minded colleagues helped her cope with her daily struggles as a young design student. āI had friends who shared with my headspace. Weekdays, on campus, weekends I am in Accra working and I did this for the four years,ā she noted. To this end, she emphasised the value of collaboration and maintaining a balance between academic commitments and practical experiences.
On his part, Mr. Elliot Agyare urged students to leverage the available opportunities in the technology space to build their fortunes. He encouraged the freshers to manage their time properly and commit to a passion they enjoy doing.
