Vice-Chancellor Meets and Interacts with Cape-Coast Chapter of KNUST Alumni Association

The Cape Coast Chapter of the KNUST Global Alumni Association has hosted Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST), Professor Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson to an interactive stakeholder meeting at Pempamsie Hotel.  The event, which took place on Wednesday, 24th May, 2023 was aimed at taking stock of the gains of KNUST and share ideas on the critical role of the alumni in the development of the University.

Prof. Emmanuel Kwamina Bamfo-Agyei, the Cape Coast Chapter President of the KNUST Alumni Association, welcoming the Vice-Chancellor, thanked her for making this important interactive engagement a reality.

 

Representing the Global President of the KNUST Alumni Association, Mr. Herman Yobo-Addae lauded the growth of the KNUST Alumni Association and highlighted development initiatives embarked on by the association such as the KNUST 70th Anniversary Garden in Mamfe, award of full educational scholarships to three students of KNUST, mentorship of final year students at the University, the Vice-Chancellor’s interaction with various Chapters of the Association etc. He concluded by thanking the University management for constantly supporting the KNUST Alumni Association and encouraged Teknokrats to take advantage of same and avail themselves for the association’s activities especially, the KNUST Mentorship.

Mr. James Kwasi Oberko, Senior Assistant Registrar at the Advancement and Alumni Relations Office (AARO) of KNUST, presenting an overview of planned alumni activities, informed ‘Teknokrats’ that, the novel KNUST Day of Giving, which was launched by the Chancellor, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in March 2023, was about to take off. He added that the financial target was to raise                    GH ¢200,000,000.00 for the construction of a 2000 bed-space hostel facility, to complement student accommodation on campus. He therefore called on them to donate generously on the 6th of October, 2023.

 

The Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Prof. (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson in her address, congratulated the alumni for being good ambassadors of the University. Referring to the high number of students who graduate from the University each year, Prof. Mrs. Dickson also appealed to Teknokrats to admit KNUST graduates into their fold for internship purposes.  In her concluding statement, she asked alumni across the globe to provide KNUST with the required feedback, to help improve the institution. ‘What drives us is quality continuous improvement. Since we do not want complacency to kill us, we continually ask ourselves what we could add to improve. That is why we have created the KNUST Feedback App to enable alumni and stakeholders to provide KNUST with the critical feedback’ she said.

 

Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, an alumnus of KNUST and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, called for more alumni support in securing resources for developing their alma mater. He also urged them to take conscious steps to mentor the current students, as that was crucial in shaping the latter’s character to reflect the ideals of the University.

Some alumni who had distinguished themselves in the alumni activities of the Cape-Coast Chapter of the KNUST Alumni Association were honoured at the event. They include Ing. Prof. Livingstone Kobina Sam Amoah, Pharm. Dr. Nana Abekah Twentoh and Surv. Seth Boakye Owusu. 

Other alumni and officials who were present at the program were Prof. William Otoo Ellis; Former Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Mr. Andrews Kwasi Boateng; Registrar of KNUST and Mrs. Mercy Payne; Central Regional Director of the Ghana Highways Authority.
