The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Alumni community is celebrating one of its distinguished alumnae, Prof. Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, following her receipt of the maiden Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) Meritorious Award in recognition of her exemplary leadership and outstanding contributions to higher education in Ghana.
Prof. Dickson, a proud alumna of KNUST, received the award during the opening ceremony of the 3rd Annual GTEC Summer School hosted by the University. Accepting the honour, she expressed gratitude to GTEC and dedicated the award to the entire KNUST community, describing it as a reflection of the collective commitment of the University's management, faculty, staff, and students to excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and institutional development.
In her remarks, Prof. Dickson emphasised the importance of sustained dialogue and collaboration between the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission and higher education institutions. She encouraged stronger engagement through regular consultations, noting that many challenges within the sector could be resolved through open communication and mutual understanding.
She reaffirmed KNUST's commitment to working closely with GTEC to strengthen quality assurance and enhance higher education delivery, assuring the Commission of the University's continued support in developing practical solutions that improve the tertiary education experience for students across Ghana.
Presenting the award, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, Director-General of GTEC, explained that the Commission instituted the Meritorious Awards to honour individuals and institutions whose leadership, resilience, and commitment to excellence continue to transform Ghana's higher education landscape.
