A distinguished alumnus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Bismarck Dinko, has represented the University at the Second Africa-Europe Clusters of Research Excellence (CoRE) Conference, held at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, contributing to international discussions on strengthening research collaboration in infectious diseases.
Dr. Dinko, who graduated from KNUST with a Bachelor of Science in Biology (2002 to 2006), earning First Class Honours, participated in the conference as a representative of KNUST on the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) side of the CoRE Advanced Infectious Diseases Research and Training (CoRE AID) cluster.
Held from 14–17 June 2026, the conference brought together university leaders, researchers, and policymakers from Africa and Europe to explore innovative approaches to addressing global health challenges through collaborative research, capacity building, and institutional partnerships.
The event was held alongside the Summit of Vice-Chancellors and Presidents of the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) and The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities, providing a strategic platform for strengthening research partnerships between African and European institutions. Participants engaged in plenary sessions, workshops, and high-level discussions focused on advancing research excellence, fostering innovation, and identifying new opportunities for collaboration.
The conference also marked three years of the Clusters of Research Excellence (CoRE) initiative, allowing participating institutions to reflect on achievements and chart a course for future collaborative research. It coincided with the 575th anniversary of the University of Glasgow and the 10th anniversary of The Guild, underscoring the enduring value of international academic partnerships.
Dr. Dinko's participation highlights the growing global impact of KNUST alumni in advancing scientific research and addressing critical health challenges through international collaboration. His achievements continue to reflect the University's tradition of academic excellence and its commitment to producing graduates who make meaningful contributions to society.
