The KNUST Alumni community is celebrating Dr. Bismarck Dinko, a proud alumnus of the University, following his award of the Georg Forster Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The prestigious fellowship will support his research work in malaria parasite biology and strengthen his international research collaborations.
Dr. Dinko, who studied BSc. Biology at KNUST and completed his degree in 2006, is a researcher in the Department of Clinical Microbiology, School of Medical Sciences. Under the fellowship, he will undertake recurring research stays at Heidelberg University Hospital in Germany from 2026 to 2028, collaborating with Prof. Dr. Friedrich Frischknecht to investigate how malaria parasites adapt within different human tissues.
The research is expected to contribute to a better understanding of malaria parasite biology and support efforts towards developing new malaria vaccine strategies. Beyond the research itself, the fellowship will provide Dr. Dinko with opportunities to strengthen international collaborations, develop an interdisciplinary research team at KNUST, and enhance research leadership and postgraduate training at the University.
The fellowship is another significant milestone in Dr. Dinko's research journey and highlights the growing contribution of KNUST alumni to scientific discovery and global efforts to address pressing health challenges.
