Alumni Personality of the Week (Tek. Arc. Prof. Daniel Yaw Addai Duah, PhD, FGIA, DhPMP)

Arc. Prof. Daniel Yaw Addai Duah is a distinguished academic and alumnus of KNUST. He obtained his BSc. in Architecture in the year 2000 and Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture also in 2002 from KNUST. He was a resident of Unity Hall (Continental), where he demonstrated exemplary leadership as the Hall President in 2000. He spearheaded the installation of the basketball courtyard, notice boards on all floors, and the construction of walkways from the Unity Hall to the Independence Hall and one other to the Students’ clinic, among other infrastructural improvements. He was also member of the 4-person team to recompose the Unity Hall anthem in 1999.

Prof. Duah is currently the Head of the Department of Architecture and immediate past Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO), and Director of the Confucius Institute at KNUST. He has also served in many roles in the university, nationally and internationally including the Academic board, Boards of the Department of Architecture and IPO, Senior Staff Housing Committee, SDG (Goal 17) – Partnership for Goals, Coordinator of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies among many others

Prof. Duah is the first Professor of Sustainability and Inclusivity in the Department of Architecture, KNUST. A Chartered Architect and Fellow of the Ghana Institute of Architects, as well as a Distinguished Fellow of Project Management Professionals Ghana, he brings over two decades of impact across academia, research, consultancy, mentorship, and institutional governance. He has shaped architectural education and professional standards nationally through roles including Chief Examiner of the Ghana Institute of Architects (since 2020), Resource person on sustainability and climate-responsive architectural practice, and member of the Institute’s Education and Institutions Committee. His influence extends globally through high-impact research publications and peer review contributions to leading international journals.

His leadership has delivered measurable social and institutional impact at KNUST and beyond. As Dean of IPO, he transformed the office, driving significant growth in partnerships, student mobility, scholarships, visibility, and strategic governance, earning both local and international recognition. As Ghanaian Director of the Confucius Institute at KNUST, he led the expansion of multicultural education and collaboration, mobilizing over US$500,000, establishing new teaching centres, strengthening industry–academia linkages, and advancing China–Africa engagement through international development forums. He also serves as an Elder of the Church of Pentecost, mentoring young people in faith and leadership.

As a proud alumnus, Prof. Daniel Yaw Addai Duah has consistently supported and participated in alumni activities, contributing significantly to KNUST and the KNUST Alumni Association, including co-leading the initiation and adoption of the KNUST Day of Giving in 2024.
